Dairy Cows with DA recover using SweetPro FiberMate18 blocks
March 2005, Mont Alto, PA - Things have been
looking up for two local cows with Displaced Abomasums (DA) at Gaymere
Farms a dairy in Mont Alto, Pa. Curtis Carbaugh, herd manager, credits
their improved health to the recent addition of SweetPro FiberMate18
blocks. Carbaugh had received information about the blocks from
Snider's Elevator, Inc, a nearby feed mill in Lemasters, PA.
After being told about the benefits of SweetPro
blocks, Carbaugh decided to give the non-molasses distillers grain based
blocks a try. Plus he heard the blocks contain protein, vitamins and
organic-complexed minerals.
Soon Mark Gayman, the farm's owner,
noticed that the DA cows looked healthier. Carbaugh explained to him
that the cows were now receiving the benefits of SweetPro blocks, which
he had placed outside the milking parlor for the convenience of the
herd. He also conveyed to his boss that both cows not only were looking
better but that their milk production had increased as well.

Carbaugh also reports that to date
only the cows that need additional nutrition are utilizing the blocks.
The cows stop by the blocks for a few "licks" as they leave the milking
parlor, including the two recovering cows.
Carbaugh states that he is very pleased with the
performance improvements the SweetPro blocks have shown in overall herd
health and milk production. In addition to the SweetPro FibreMate18,
Gaymere Farms uses SweetPro's Fresh Start dairy lactation supplement in
their rations.
