Recovery from weaning is fast with SweetPro lick blocks!

March 2004 • Manger Matt Kerns at the Seven P Ranch in Tyler, Texas reports to us his observations of what’s been happening with their pure bred Simmental herd. The number one thing he’s noticed is that their conception rates have been “phenomenal”, even with first calf heifers! The Seven P is seeing 35 day heat cycles with cattle on SweetPro lick blocks. He also remarks that breedback and clean-up is impressive. At 35 days their tracts look good. (SweetPro lick block consumption rate is around 1 pound per day per head.)

For the calves, recovery from weaning is fast with SweetPro! Their stomachs are in great condition, there is less bawling and much reduced stress levels. They go right to the blocks and feed (they are used to feeding on the blocks from when they’re with mom.). The Seven P sees a 60-70 lb gain within 45 days after weaning where before they held their own or went backwards. Their weight gains are also “framey”, not over conditioned gains that reduce the sale price. Out of eighty, 6 week calves shipped to the feed lot, they only lost one ("to bloat" says Matt...).
