Calver/Breeder - Dry Cow Premium Feed Supplements
Net Wt. 250 lbs. (114 kg)
Fortified Protein Supplement for Dry Cows

Dry Cows
Both dairy and beef cows are close to calving.
Both have similar needs. Now there’s a new block to meet the nutritional
requirements of both!
Rest & Ready
Yes, they're getting a needed rest, but they're also
getting ready for the next lactation. Now there's a convenient new
tool to improve dry cow nutrition...
SweetPro©
Dry Cow / Calver-Breeder blocks
Vitamin Requirements During Dry Period
Vitamin E in abundance. Check the tag -- 1,100 units of
"E"! In combination with selenium (8 ppm) they enhance the body defenses
to protect against infectious agents. That means better calving,
clean-up and rebreeding.
Vitamins A, D and E are all important for proper dry cow nutrition.
Vitamin "A" to supplement when forages have been weather-damaged or
heated in storage.
Vitamin "D" helps
assist where sun curing of forage leaves is limited.
Udder
Edema
Insufficient levels of magnesium during the dry period limit calcium
mobilization and that contributes to udder edema. SweetPro©
blocks have a solid magnesium profile. Strategic salt selection is the
key here. SweetPro© blocks have limited sodium chloride salt -- thus
minimizing the chances of udder edema.
Instead, the emphasis is ANIONIC salts.
Use of
Anionic Salts to Prevent Milk Fever
A recent
innovation in prevention of milk fever in dairy cows is the feeding of
anionic salts prior to calving. Commonly used anionic salts include
ammonium sulfate and calcium sulfate, both of which are included in
SweetPro© Dry Cow / Calver-Breeder blocks.
Use of the anionic salts shifts the dietary cation-anion balance in a
more anionic or negative direction. Research indicates that an anionic
diet will:
Lower blood and
urine pH
Increase calcium absorption and mobilization
Cause higher blood calcium levels
Decrease the incidence of milk fever
Potential
benefits of feeding SweetPro© Dry Cow with anionic salts
(besides increasing blood calcium levels and decreasing milk fever)
include:
Enhanced
muscle tone.
Increased intake after calving.
Decreased incidence of retained placenta, displaced abomasum,
dystocia (difficult calving), and udder edema.
Improved milk yield and improved conception rate.
